Working with MassDevelopment, Taylor & Burns Architects, provided design services studying options to renovate and improve the viaduct in Lynn Central Square. The viaduct supports the MBTA’s elevated Lynn Central commuter rail station and represents a historical fixture in the heart of downtown Lynn. Taylor & Burns performed numerous evaluations of the surrounding area documenting popular amenities including Lynn’s art and culture resurgence with the non-profit group “Beyond Walls.” Options explored utilizing modular shipping containers in various forms to house tenants and businesses looking to grow. Options to rehabilitate the interior of the viaduct making it inhabitable were explored but understood to have greater impact with cost. Today the plaza and Lynn Central Viaduct serves as a weekly farmers market for the community.
