    • New 7,500 sf building for Greenway maintenance staff and operations

    • Employee support space; horticulture shop, nursery, garage, workshop; and paved workyard

    • Insulated metal wall panels, concrete stem wall, insulated storefront and skylight glazing

  • Following completion of the Central Artery/Tunnel Project (the “Big Dig”) and underground relocation of the elevated highway, the Rose Kennedy Greenway reconnects some of Boston’s oldest and most vibrant neighborhoods, and the city itself with the waterfront. Its mission is to offer engaging experiences in a healthy green space by providing programming, including temporary public art exhibits, along with park care that supports year-round beauty, public safety, and environmental stewardship. This design provides for Greenway maintenance staff and operations, replacing scattered shipping containers and remote service locations, on a site at the downtown intersection between I-90 and I-93 that is overlooked by MassDOT Highway District 6 Headquarters.

This new 7,500 sf facility provides space for horticulture teams, landscapers, and construction staff includes:

    • Employee area: office, eye wash station, toilets, lockers, and showers

    • Horticulture shop

    • Nursery for storage of saplings, plantings, and flowers

    • Workshop for repairs and fabrication

    • Garage with equipment storage

    • Mezzanine for seasonal storage

    • Paved work yard

The interior of the facility is configured for flexible use and a variety of functions.
