MBTA Sullivan Square Improvements

  • Boston, MA

    Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)

    • Renovation of existing busway

    • Renovation of lobby, restrooms, platforms, and staff areas

    • New canopy over accessibility ramp

  • The MBTA Station Brightening program aims to bridge the gap between regular maintenance and improving the system. The Sullivan Square station presents a particular brightening challenge due to its location in an open cut under the Interstate 93 viaduct. The design focuses on renovating the existing busway, bus drivers lounge, lobby, restrooms, and platforms to improve the safety and appearance of the station. The scope of work includes the addition of a new canopy over the ramp in the busway, replacing windows and doors, replacing railings and stair treads, painting the station, repairing concrete on and above the platform, and replacing the lighting to bring the station into conformance with current MBTA standards.

  • The accessible ramps incorporate new canopies and guardrails meeting requirements of MBTA System Wide Accessibility (SWA) and Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (MAAB).
